13 Days of Self Care – Celebrate with Champagne
This is the 13 Days of Self Care. I have been inspired by a wall hanging I have in my home which gives 13 ideas to spoil yourself and value who you are… This is, in essence what Self Care is.
Day 6 of 13 – Celebrate with Champagne
Why champagne? Well…. why not? Even if you don’t drink alcohol there is non-alcoholic champagne and there’s something about hearing the pop of the cork! There is often the obligatory “YAY!” or “WOOOO!” after the pop goes off! The same is true for the use of party poppers! Something happens when we celebrate with a bang!
The art of celebration is very important when it comes to self care. When we celebrate we are bringing honour to something that was/is important or of some value. In the photo you can see me celebrating with champagne! This was the night of my uni graduation and it was super important to make sure I celebrated the end of 3 years of hard yakka!
I first learned about the importance to celebrate wins when I was at uni. My Family Therapy and Groups lecturer would often talk about remembering to celebrate, she would say “celebrate when you’ve completed an assignment” it will help you to keep moving forward. The art of celebration can be to keep you motivated, I also think that it’s just as much about giving recognition for the hard work, the deep relationship or the highs and lows of the journey. And how you celebrate is completely up to you.
The purple hair I was talking about in a previous post, that was partly a celebration for starting a new job/venture. I had just come out of a challenging job situation and it was important for me to celebrate the fact that I got through it, I learned a lot about myself and I made a difference in the lives of many people. Sometimes what you want to do to celebrate can’t be done straight away, maybe you want to go on a trip or have something made… It’s okay if you are celebrating something weeks or months after it’s happened. The point is to recognise the achievement, not the timing of the celebration.
Celebrate with champagne…. or whatever it is that brings you joy. Go to the movies, get the family together, go on a trip, sit in the sun – Celebrating can be whatever you want it to be and it needs to be unique to you so that it’s a special time for you.
Remember as you’re celebrating….
You Are Worth It.
