This is the 13 Days of Self Care. I have been inspired by a wall hanging I have in my home which gives 13 ideas to spoil yourself and value who you are… This is, in essence what Self Care is.
Day 2 of 13 – Try New Things
What is it that you’ve always wanted to do? Learn a new language, try a new cooking style, learn how to play an instrument, colour your hair or shave your head for a cure, test drive your favourite car?
For me… it is colour my hair purple. Yes! My favourite colour is purple and always has been for as long as I can remember. I have always wanted to colour my hair purple and have always been in jobs where it would not meet the professional dress code… so I’ve taken my chance while I can.
Ask anyone who has known me for longer than 10 years and they would know that I wasn’t very good at trying new things. I would always order the same thing when I went out for dinner and I would very rarely eat anywhere else except for a pub or an Italian restaurant…
Until I tried something else new… I took a trip to Vietnam and helped the less fortunate build houses. It was in Vietnam that I had to try new things, it was rude to not eat what is in front of me… And I’m so glad I did. I got to try Dragon Fruit – Soooo delicious! I also got to try the Vietnamese Cafe Sua Da (Iced Coffee)… I do not usually drink coffee but this stuff is amazing, it’s the incredible joy of Sweetened Condensed Milk added….
So by trying one or two new things or being put in a position where I had to try new things, it helped to widen my whole worldview. Now I am more willing to try new things and I venture outside my comfort zone regularly.
Try It. It’s good for our brain to try and learn new things, it’s also good for our confidence when we do what we really want to do and be brave to step out, even when we don’t know how it will pan out.
Plus… why put off what you’ve always wanted to try. Live Life to the Fullest, for today is our only certainty.
Go for it, because You Are Worth It.
