Supporting couples who are preparing for marriage using Prepare/Enrich Marriage Education and Counselling inventory.
For many couples, pre-marriage counselling is something you do during your engagement period. You’ve decided that you want to spend the rest of your lives together and you also want to continue getting to know one other and work towards building a great foundation for marriage.
I am a Certified Prepare/Enrich Facilitator and Prepare/Enrich is the process I use when supporting couples in pre-marriage counselling. Prepare/Enrich is a relationship education tool. It helps you prepare for marriage and enriches the relationship you already have.
Prepare/Enrich is a process that asks each party to complete a customized inventory of a wide range of questions followed by sessions with me to receive and work through the results together.
Why is Prepare/Enrich a good option for an engaged couple?
Prepare/Enrich is:
- Highly researched and regularly updated
- The #1 premarital and marriage assessment and has been for over 40 years
- Guided by a trained certified facilitator
- The global standard for pre-marriage education
- Used in over 100+ countries
- Suitable for all couples in all situations (different faith and ethnic backgrounds, different stages of relationship, different ages and stages of life etc).
Prepare/Enrich has benefited over 5 million couples and has been proven to improve relationship satisfaction.
What can we expect in pre-marriage counselling?
In pre-marriage counselling I will support you to explore various aspects of your relationship. The Prepare/Enrich program starts with an inventory that each partner completes individually before the first session and then you will meet with me to discuss the results and unpack any specific areas of concern and celebration.
The inventory helps you as a couple to explore, understand and address issues from the following categories:
- Communication
- Conflict resolution
- Personality styles
- Financial management
- Family of origin
- Relationship roles and dynamics
- Spiritual beliefs
- Stress
When should we start pre-marriage counselling?
It is encouraged to start the Prepare/Enrich process as soon as you’re engaged so that you’re not doing it at the last minute before your wedding. Often couples leave it until closer to the wedding, but it can be hard to give pre-marriage counselling your best focus when wedding preparations increase as you get closer to your wedding day.
Pre-marriage counselling is a great way to honour your relationship and set you up for success. It identifies strengths and growth areas and helps to improve communication. It makes a statement to yourselves that this relationship matters and that there are always areas for growth and to go deeper.
