13 Days of Self Care – DREAM
This is the 13 Days of Self Care. I have been inspired by a wall hanging I have in my home which gives 13 ideas to spoil yourself and value who you are… This is, in essence what Self Care is.
Day 5 of 13 – DREAM
Dream. It seems to be a buzz word these days. I once asked my parents if they were always thinking about what they would love to do if they had the chance or what their dreams were when they were younger. They said that they probably talked about it at times, but it wasn’t around as much as it is in our culture today. (Of course technology and social media have escalated that a lot).
If you follow any motivational or inspirational social media account you will see those dream quotes come through your feed all the time (hey, it might even be from me at Journeez, I’m guilty of doing that!). Dreams are an interesting concept because dreams used to be mainly about what happens when we sleep, now, dreams are about achieving anything you want to. You have a dream to do something or go somewhere, the motivation is that you can. You can do it!
As much as I agree and I have definitely been blessed to achieve amazing things in my short life, including going skydiving (Photo above with my skydiving instructor), going in a hot air balloon and meeting one of my heros…
… There is another side to dreams that I want you to consider. What if you could actually achieve your dreams? What if your dreams didn’t stay a dream but became a reality? “A dream is only a dream… until you decide to make it real.” – Harry Styles. Or “A goal is a dream with a deadline.” – Napoleon Hill.
So the question becomes two things:
- Do you want your dream to become a reality?
- Are you happy with your dream staying as a dream?
The choice is totally up to you and it’s okay either way. For me, I am in the process of living some of my dreams because I had a moment several years ago where I realised that life is short and I would regret not trying if something happened that meant I couldn’t ever do it.
That is just my story. What’s yours? What do you want your story to be? We do have the power to make things happen in our life (let’s be honest, most of us want to have some sort of control!). The fact is that sometimes we don’t have control over our lives. There will always be things we can’t control, there are also many things that we can control. It all comes down to choice.
You can choose to make your dreams a reality. You can choose to be content where you are. Either way, own it. Own what you decide.
I spent many years of my life making excuses for why I couldn’t do this or couldn’t do that. Eventually I had to choose to own the decisions I made. If I wasn’t happy, I had to change it. If I didn’t want to change it, I had to learn to be content with it.
So I encourage you to think about this dream concept. There is a lot of hype around “live your dreams”. It’s your choice if you choose to work towards your dreams or let them stay dreams.
Whatever you choose, remember…
You Are Worth It.
