13 Days of Self Care – Belly Laugh With Friends
This is the 13 Days of Self Care. I have been inspired by a wall hanging I have in my home which gives 13 ideas to spoil yourself and value who you are… This is, in essence what Self Care is.
Day 4 of 13 – Belly Laugh With Friends
I am a F.R.I.E.N.D.S. fan so I thought it was fitting to lead you to a Friends clip for today’s Self Care Tip. Please click here to have some laughs!
Laughing is SO good for us. If you think about those in your life you can probably picture certain people and the sound of their laugh that comes with them. I once worked with someone who had THE.BEST. laugh ever and it was so great that when he was away, people missed both him AND his laugh.
But you know, I also know of stories where people have been told to keep quiet because their laugh was too “annoying” or didn’t “fit” with the profile of the group or workplace. I find this so sad to think about now. When those people were shut down because of their laugh, it impacted their self esteem, outlook on life and ability to relate and connect with people.
Laughing is also very vulnerable and it’s impossible to have true connection with people, when there is no laughter. Dr Brené Brown says in her book The Gifts of Imperfection:
“I refer to the kind of laughter that helps us heal as knowing laughter. Laughter is a spiritual form of communing; without words we can say to one another, “I’m with you. I get it.”” Brené goes on to say “Knowing laughter embodies the relief and connection we experience when we realise the power of sharing stories – we’re not laughing at each other but with each other.”
So you can see why laughing is just one thing, and laughing with friends is a whole other experience. That’s when we experience some part of true connection.
Get your friends together and watch a funny movie… Or if you can’t think of one to watch, simply go to youtube and before you know it you will have watched hours of funny clips. (Like me… haha, this blog took me a couple hours to write when it wouldn’t usually take that long because I got side tracked by watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S. bloopers!)
I feel much better for it! And remember…
You Are Worth It.
