13 Days of Self Care – Consider the Environment
This is the 13 Days of Self Care. I have been inspired by a wall hanging I have in my home which gives 13 ideas to spoil yourself and value who you are… This is, in essence what Self Care is.
Day 10 of 13 – Consider the Environment
Looking after the world we live in is a very popular subject these days. We see it in the media, on billboards, in general conversation etc.
So why would it be good for us and our self care to consider the environment? One of the first things I think about when I think about self care and the environment, is getting out into the country every so often and embracing the fresh air. Fresh air? Often I’m near animals so I’m not smelling anything fresh – from sheep poo to the smell of an animal that unfortunately died… even with those smells, it’s worlds away from the smells in the city, aka smog. We have chemicals being used all over the place, not to mention the smell of cars driving past. Petrol smell when filling up your car to burning rubber when someone hoons past squealing their wheels! There is very limited fresh and natural smells in the city.
When we consider the environment we are thinking of others and the world we are leaving for them. What kind of world will our children or children’s children be living in?
There is something amazing about thinking of others and only wanting the best for them. There is an incredible feeling and it can really fill our self-esteem tank when we do something for someone else or know we are contributing to something bigger than ourselves.
In order to consider the environment, we don’t have to go vegetarian or never use plastic, it’s simply about being more considerate. Asking yourself “do I need to buy or get that extra plastic bag at the shops or can I simply carry what I’ve bought?” OR, “could I walk to the shops instead of drive my car?” I have to be honest, this is an area that does not come naturally to me. I’m on my way to being more environmentally conscious and I’m making day to day decisions that sit well with me. Remember you can only be responsible for your own decisions.
Consider the environment and reflect on how it makes you feel to make small and simple changes each day knowing that you are contributing to something bigger than yourself.
You Are Worth It.
