Self Care Tip – Get Colouring
When I was little I loved to colour… on the other hand I knew I wasn’t the best because I would often enter colouring competitions and I don’t ever remember winning!
Then came year 12, deep down I knew what my artistic ability was and still I chose to do Art in Year 12… because, well lets face it, the other option was Physics! Art it was! I was determined to embrace the process which is something my art teacher told me was the most important part of doing well in the subject. I thought I was doing so well… until I almost failed Art at the end of the year and couldn’t understand why. I believed I had embraced and recorded the process as directed.
Jump forward almost 10 years and I meet a lovely lady who was to become my counsellor. Through her compassionate heart, gentle honesty and life changing encouragement, I began to explore art and the concept of being artistic. Now, I love to do an art activity (although I don’t do it anywhere near as much as I could.)
Then the concept called Colourtation was brought to my attention. Colourtation? Is that even a word? Colourtation is the company who has started to publish Colouring Books for Adults! I am in my happy place (well one of them! Take me to a beach as well and then that would be my happy place!)
Below is an example of one of the pages in my Colourtation Book.
Dr Stan Rodski is a Psychologist and Neuroscientist and his research has proven that colouring is a stress release and is also a form of meditation. So if you think you don’t have time to meditate, maybe colouring might be for you. It really is a very mindful exercise. The research also shows that colouring 30 minutes a day can improve calmness and sleep patterns.
I always have colouring pages at my workshops so people can do this as they are listening. I always get comments about how the colouring option has helped their learning and listening.
Maybe you could choose to do some colouring this week and see how different your stress and sleep patterns are. To get you started you can download some free Colourtation Colouring Pages here. More importantly follow Colourtation on Facebook.
Give colouring a go this week and make time for you. #cosyoureworthit
