World Mental Health Day – 10.10
10th October is World Mental Health Day.
Across the world today mental health is being talked about and awareness is being raised.
As we know, there is so much stigma around mental illness in our society and it’s not OK. Mental Illness is like any other medical condition. Yes, it’s complex because not every person or symptoms are exactly the same. That’s more reason for us to tap into our own personal experience of challenging situations in our life, to support and encourage those with Mental Health concerns. If you are unsure how mental illness affects ones life, get educated. Do some research, ask the questions.
You don’t know what you don’t know. We who have or have had mental illness want you to ask. We want you to ask ‘How are you going?” Or to say “I don’t know what you’re going through or what it’s like to live with…. but I want you to know that I’m here and I want to help and learn. Can you teach me?”
Open the lines of communication. If you feel that you can’t ask your friend or family member who has the illness, then ask your GP, another friend, do your own research to find the answers and learn how to love and support your friend or family member.
Today is World Mental Health Day. Let’s talk about Mental Health. Let’s talk about our emotions and feelings. Let’s talk.
