This is my word for 2017! Every year for the past 5 or so years I have chosen a word that will help me to stay focused throughout the year. It’s not something that I reflect on everyday throughout the year, it’s something that draws me back to focus when I am getting ‘led astray’.
For me: declutter is about getting rid of the excess in my life.
- It’s about getting rid of stuff that is lying around the house cluttering up my space or things that are sitting around that I don’t use.
- It’s about decluttering my time. I realised I spend too much time on screens. Watching TV, looking at my phone, sitting on the computer… So this year is about making space and doing things that are without a screen. For me, that means doing more reading. So I’m engaging in reading some autobiographies in 2017!
- It’s about decluttering my relationships. Who is draining energy from me? Who is unhealthy for me? Who leads me astray? These relationships often happen very slowly and before you realise it, they are not a healthy influence in your life. So for me, decluttering is about making less time for those who drain me and more time with those who give me life and fill my soul!
- It’s about decluttering my social media feeds. For the time I am on social media, I find I have liked pages that are now not feeding my soul or mind in a healthy way. So it’s about decluttering what pages I’ve liked along the way and getting back to the centre of who I am and what I want to be encouraged by on a regular basis as I scroll through my social media feeds.
So declutter. That’s my word and focus for 2017!
