Professional Supervision

Create space to reflect on your professional life

Professional Supervision is a service offered to those who would like individual support surrounding their work role as Allied Health Clinicians and Pastors/Clergy/Ministers and Church Workers.

“Supervision provides a safe space for a practitioner to reflect on their practice – to have super-vision – so they can be the best for their clients or parishioners.”- Anna Oxenberry

What does supervision involve?

  • A collaborative contract between supervisor and supervisee.
  • Safe place to reflect on actions, thoughts, beliefs and ideas experienced in a work role.
  • Opportunities to share confidentially about scenarios and receive support to process more deeply.
  • Discussions about self-care and professional development for the supervisee.
  • Ensuring legal and ethical practice is conducted.

Ultimately, professional supervision provides the practitioner (counsellor, pastor, chaplain, teacher, nurse, principal, support worker etc) with a safe space to debrief and process what is happening in their workplace and work role. It considers the impact on their work with clients, parishioners, colleagues and stakeholders. The practice of professional supervision uses a variety of models and tools to invite the practitioner to reflect and process their own personal triggers, professional challenges and self-care practices.

Anna is fully qualified with a Graduate Certificate of Professional Supervision and is a PACFA Accredited Supervisor. Anna is available for Clinical Supervision and Pastoral Supervision.

How is supervision different to counselling?

Supervision is specifically focused on a work situation or role, whereas counselling is focused on personal situations and relationships. Although there are times in supervision where the supervisee’s personal circumstances and beliefs are addressed, the question remains “how does all of this impact on your work situation or role?”

Clinical Supervision

Anna has 11 years working as a counsellor and her Clinical Supervision skills were development and practiced considerably in her training. Anna has a specific passion and interest in supervising new counsellors to encourage them as they get established in their role as a counsellor.

“Supervision is a joint endeavour in which a practitioner, with the help of a supervisor, attends to their clients, themselves as part of their client-practitioner relationships and the wider systemic and ecological contexts, and by so doing improves the quality of their work, transforms their client relationships, continuously develops themselves, their practice and the wider profession.” Hawkins and McMahon, (2020, p. 66)

Pastoral Supervision

Anna has several years of working in Christian ministry contexts including churches, schools and not for profit organisations. She has supervision experience working in the school chaplaincy sector.

“Pastoral supervision is a method of doing and reflecting on ministry in which a supervisor (teacher) and one or more supervisees (learners) covenant together to reflect critically on their ministry as a way of growing in self-awareness, ministering competence, theological understanding, and Christian commitment.”
