13 Days of Self Care – Keep It Simple
This is the 13 Days of Self Care. I have been inspired by a wall hanging I have in my home which gives 13 ideas to spoil yourself and value who you are… This is, in essence what Self Care is.
Day 13 of 13 – Keep It Simple
Simplicity. Some people are making it a way of life.
There are still way too many of us that stray from keeping it simple to making it as complicated as possible (unintentionally of course!).
I am someone who naturally thinks about things way too much. Because I do that it often makes decision making harder because I want to make sure I get it right no matter how complicated it is to achieve. And I think I have to keep everyone happy as well!
One simple trip to the shops used to be very complicated for me. I would check with all those in my vicinity (OK maybe just my house mates), as to whether they wanted me to pick anything up for them. Some might see that as simply being considerate, sure, if you’re a simpleton and don’t stress out about a trip to the shops. But for someone who already makes things more complicated than needed, a simple “pick up a couple quick things” turns into a big shop that takes half an hour instead of 5 minutes.
Can you relate?
Turns out now, that simple question of “would you like me to pick up anything from the shops for you?” is a question I only ask when I know I have the time, energy and desire to pick up more things than I need. I used to see it as rude if I didn’t ask everyone if they needed anything, now I just think twice to look after myself and value my time and energy.
You see, keeping things simple in life can change our whole persona, our mood and our relationships. When we keep things simple we have more energy for the important things, we have more time to spend with loved ones, more desire to cook a loving and nutritious meal and even more time to simply sit in the sun and enjoy the weather.
Keep it simple. When you find yourself rushing from one activity or errand to the next, when you find yourself yelling at the person who cut in front of you, when you find yourself having to book things into your calendar months ahead… stop. Ask yourself, “am I happy with the speed and complexity of my life?” (Sure there are seasons that will be busy, is it a way of life that you desire for you and your family?)
Whatever you choose…
You Are Worth It.
