Mental Health Awareness Week
This week is Mental Health Awareness Week!
I believe creating more awareness of mental illness and mental health in our society is the key to beginning to break down the negative stigma.
The latest statistics show that 20% of the Australian population have a common mental illness.
That’s 1 in 5 of us and probably more of us who are having minor mental health issues. With many people being overwhelmed with stress and day to day worry and anxiety. It’s these experiences that affect more of us than we know or are willing to admit.
If you want to support mental health awareness here are a few things you can do:
Share your story. Talk to people about your own personal experience. The more we talk about the fact that we’re not OK the more it’s OK to say “I’m not OK.” If you know you’re not OK and want to talk about it, there is help.
Get involved. Gather with like-minded people around the support and education of Mental Health:
Participate in a Mental Health First Aid Course.
Participate in Journeez Looking After Yourself Workshop
Donate to the following organisations who are doing an amazing job promoting positive mental health as well as supporting thousands of individuals and families across Australia every year.
