A while a go now, I did an art journalling eCourse about vulnerability, shame, courage and learning to live a Wholehearted life. Pictured here are some of the lessons I learned. Life is a journey and counselling can be one way to learn these life changing tools.
I often hear from people that they have been considering seeing a counsellor for a while. There are a few reasons for the delay in making the phone call or sending the email to make the appointment:
– Resistance – I am afraid of what counselling is about, can I trust the counsellor? Will it really be helpful?
– Procrastination – I know I’m going to do it, I’m just putting it off.
– Avoidance – It’s in the back of my mind and I’m avoiding it.
I want to tell you that taking the step to see a counsellor is a courageous move. You are very normal if you’re feeling apprehensive. The encouragement I’d give is, “give it a go, if you don’t like the counsellor (especially if you feel unsafe in anyway), you don’t have to go back. You also might just find that’s it’s extremely helpful in moving forward and getting out of the mud you’re stuck in.”
